When Detroit Edison announced this week it was going to implement a trial rate structure for residential customers who have a plug-in vehicle, reaction ranged from "way overpriced" to "good idea." We can file electric vehicle maker Think into the latter category or, actually, into the group of people who "applaud" Detroit Edison's option. Think CEO Richard Canny said in a statement that:
Utilities with the foresight to offer special rates for electric vehicle residential customers including offering lower off-peak rates will encourage customers to charge their cars overnight when there is little demand on the grid. On the other side of the pond, Think announced that 15 of its City electric vehicles will be used in a car-sharing program in Ataun, Spain. Are these the 15 Citys that we heard were the only electric vehicles sold in Spain this year? The predicted numbers were so much bigger last year, when 550 were supposed to go to Spain. Still, as Green Car Advisor points out, Atuan is a mountainous area, and so the automaker must be "pretty secure about the performance capabilities of the Think City's batteries" to let them loose there.
